About Me
I am Haye Okoh, a documentary photographer and social impact story teller based in Abuja, Nigeria. Although formally trained with a degree in Communications and Multimedia, I fused my love for writing and picture making into one hobby. Starting in 2010, I was determined to capture every moment that was worth remembering until I narrowed my interest to documentary photography. I was the personal photographer to the 15th First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari from 2016 to 2020, moving from political photography to social impact photography. With specialization in social impact and humanitarian storytelling, I have worked on a wide range of documentary projects in vulnerable communities for social and behavioral change campaigns working on projects for international and local organizations, foundations and charities. I am particularly interested in empowering marginalised and vulnerable women and children in Africa through the power of storytelling. As an additional expression of my interest, I started a project called AWWAS (www.awwas.org). It is an acronym for A Woman With A Story, an initiative that mentors and equips women to confront victimisation by providing platforms for creative expression in order to challenge our society’s conniving culture of silence.
